Roadside Facility Maintenance
Another of Northwoods' work training programs, the Roadside Facility Maintenance (RFM) Program employs more than 25 people. Under contract with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, our crews perform landscape and building maintenance at six Safety Rest Areas, two in Dodge County south of Fond du Lac on Highway 41, two in Marquette County on Interstate 39 north of Westfield, and the two beautiful new rest areas on Interstate Highways 39/90/94 just south of Portage in Columbia County. The crews also maintains three Seasonal Waysides in Adams County. Not less than 75% of the direct labor is done by adults with disabilities.
Employees work day shifts, night shifts, and weekend shifts on a year-round basis cleaning buildings, planting flowers, mowing lawns, doing trash collections, performing repairs, and all the other tasks necessary to keep the sites clean, well maintained and pleasant for Wisconsin's tourists and travelers.
